Children and Young People's Clinical Psychologist, Band 8a/8b NHS | Derby Area

* Band: 8a (£53,755–£60,504) or 8b (£62,215–£72,293) depending on experience
* Location: Derby area
* Hours: Full-time 37.5hrs, hybrid available
* Service: CYPMHS/CAMHS

About the Role

We are working with NHS provider organisations in the Derby area to recruit Clinical Psychologists into their Children and Young People's Mental Health Services. Banding will reflect the experience of the successful candidate. You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based psychological care to CYP and their families across community and inpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

* Carry a specialist caseload of CYP presenting with complex mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, and neurodevelopmental conditions
* Conduct psychological assessments using evidence-based tools and clinical interview
* Formulate and implement individualised care plans drawing on CBT, DBT, systemic, and trauma-informed approaches
* Provide specialist psychological therapy to CYP and families, adapted appropriately for developmental stage
* Offer consultation and formulation to MDT colleagues
* Contribute to risk assessment and risk management planning
* Engage with the wider system around the young person, including schools and social care

Leadership and Service Development (8b emphasis)

* Provide clinical supervision to Band 7, 8a, assistant psychologists, and trainees
* Lead on development and evaluation of psychological pathways
* Contribute to audit, research, and quality improvement
* Represent psychology at MDT, network, and stakeholder meetings

Training and Teaching

* Deliver training to MDT colleagues on psychological models and approaches
* Support a psychologically informed culture across the service
* Maintain HCPC registration and engage in ongoing CPD

Person Specification

Essential

* Doctoral-level qualification in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy or equivalent), BPS accredited
* Current HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
* Post-qualification experience working with CYP and families in a mental health setting
* Confidence delivering evidence-based therapies relevant to CYP presentations
* Sound knowledge of child development, attachment theory, and trauma-informed practice
* Strong assessment and formulation skills
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection frameworks

Desirable

* Accredited therapy qualification (CBT, DBT, EMDR, systemic)
* Experience supervising junior staff or trainees
* Background in a specialist CYP pathway (LAC, ED, neurodevelopmental)
* Involvement in service development or research
