About the Barclays Apprenticeship

Getting qualified. It’s a huge achievement that can completely change your prospects – but it’s not always open to everyone, whether that’s due to the cost of university or the timing not being right. Here at Barclays we offer a world-class programme that provides you with a permanent, full-time job with a competitive salary from day one – all whilst gaining a professional qualification at the same time. Whether you’re a school-leaver looking for alternative options to the traditional university route or you’re someone thinking differently about your future, we’ll help you to build an extraordinary career at Barclays, no matter your background.

Who can apply

Our programme is designed for school leavers and career changers, but is open to anyone, no matter your background or your age. You’ll join an Apprenticeship cohort from diverse backgrounds (e.g., school leavers, ex-military, parents returning to work).

If you already have a degree, visit https://search.jobs.barclays/graduates and consider our graduate opportunities.

Why a Barclays Apprenticeship?

You’ll earn while you work towards a Data Scientist Degree Apprenticeship, blending theoretical learning with practical work in a permanent, full-time role. A professional qualification without the student loan, plus work experience. Apprenticeships may evolve and the programme may change before you start to stay relevant.

Barclays provides extensive support, including a Programme Support Manager and dedicated subject experts to help you grow. The Apprenticeship route offers opportunities to explore different career paths within Barclays, a company with over 325 years of banking expertise and a global presence.

What to expect in Operations

Operations at Barclays touches lives daily by supporting payments processing, systems reliability, and transaction execution across investment, corporate, and retail banking. You’ll become a vital part of that rhythm, building a foundation in Operations and contributing to strategic initiatives and customer service excellence.

Eligibility and qualifications

Required qualifications: 3 A-levels at BBC (or equivalent) and GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C (4) or equivalent.

Beyond academic requirements, Barclays seeks commitment and enthusiasm. You’ll be part of a global bank and expected to work hard, learn quickly, and think differently. You must meet the Government apprenticeship funding requirements for England, including residence and right-to-work conditions as outlined at gov.uk/guidance/apprenticeship-funding-rules.

Working in Manchester: Our Manchester office is a modern, collaborative hub with good transport access and amenities, designed to support impact and growth.
