Engineering Project Manager – Automation
Salary: GBP 50k plus benefits
Location: East Midlands – commutable from Nottingham, Leicester and Coventry
Company: A leading UK automation system solution provider with almost 50 years of experience in designing, developing and manufacturing bespoke automation and robotic systems.
Overview
Your role will be to oversee the activities of a highly professional solutions division and lead the delivery of special‑purpose machinery projects ranging from GBP 200k to GBP 2m. Based near Leicester, you will manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget while maintaining the highest standards of machine design and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
* Accurately plan resources and manage scope, schedule, and budget for each project.
* Communicate effectively with customers at every project stage and act as the technical lead.
* Create quotes, agree upgrades outside the original scope, and manage any arising issues.
* Plan and execute aftersales support while ensuring safe working practices and compliance with documentation and CE certification requirements.
* Maintain and update specifications, complete project plans, and obtain design approvals with full customer agreement.
* Lead internal design reviews, drive product development and standardisation programs across the solutions portfolio.
* Coordinate, test, and hand over machines, ensuring IAT, FAT, and SAT are successfully performed.
* Approve and hand over mechanical and controls BOMs, negotiate purchase dates, and identify cost‑saving opportunities for manufactured and bought‑out items.
* Ensure all component requirements are clear and delivered on time before arranging installation of projects.
Qualifications
* Proven project management experience with a track record of delivering engineering projects on time and within budget.
* Strong background in PLC control software and multi‑axis robotic systems within a manufacturing environment.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Capability to lead technical reviews and drive product development initiatives.
