Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our friendly reception team at our innovative practice. The environment is challenging and busy but rewarding and will suit someone versatile, patient, approachable and a team player. Receptionists assist with the smooth running of reception, greet patients and visitors to the Surgery, deal with enquiries on the telephone and in person and maintain strict confidentiality.
Duties & Responsibilities
 * Receive and handle telephone calls, diverting and taking messages accurately.
 * Make appointments and telephone consultations using EMIS Web clinical system, directing callers to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
 * Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the smooth running of the Practice.
 * Deal with all general enquiries and explain Practice procedures to patients.
 * Keyholder responsibility – ensure the surgery is closed safely at night, including closing windows and locking up.
 * Provide an effective and efficient reception service to patients and other visitors.
Working Hours
Part‑time, 22 hours per week:
 * Monday: 1:00 pm‑5:00 pm (4 hrs – covering 4–6:30 pm when absent)
 * Tuesday: Off
 * Wednesday: 7:45 am‑4:00 pm (7.25 hrs with 30 min unpaid break and covering 4–6:30 pm when absent)
 * Thursday: 1:00 pm‑4:00 pm (3 hrs)
 * Friday: 7:45 am‑3:00 pm (7.25 hrs with 30 min unpaid break and covering 4–6:30 pm when absent)
Salary & Contract
£12.21 per hour, permanent part‑time contract.

Essential Skills
 * Excellent verbal and written communication.
 * Polite, patient, approachable and good interpersonal skills.
 * Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
 * Confident using computers, phones and appointment systems.
 * Discretion when handling confidential information.
 * Team player able to work independently when required.
 * Organised and able to prioritise tasks effectively.
Desirable Skills
 * Familiarity with clinical systems (e.g. EMIS Web/Docman10).
 * Knowledge of NHS processes, appointments, referrals or prescriptions.
 * Understanding of medical terminology.
Experience
 * Essential: customer‑facing or reception role; experience in a fast‑paced, multitasking environment; accurate data entry and administrative skills.
 * Desirable: retail sales experience (≥1 year) or GP Primary Care experience (≥1 year).
Qualifications
 * Good general education (GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths).
 * Proficiency in IT systems (Microsoft Office, emails, internet).
 * Basic understanding of confidentiality, data protection (GDPR) and safeguarding.
