Research associate

Bristol (City of Bristol)
University of the West of England
Research associate
€35,000 a year
Posted: 13 June
Offer description

UWE Bristol has a fantastic opportunity for an early career researcher to support the delivery of a new NIHR-funded research project focused on adapting a structured pharmacist-led paediatric therapy management intervention for children with life-limiting conditions managing complex polypharmacy in the UK.

You’ll use mixed methods to conduct research both individually and as part of the team, including co-design workshops, interviews and focus groups with children and young people, their families and healthcare professionals and stakeholder engagement events.

You’ll manage your own workload and seek guidance and advice where necessary from the chief investigators and wider research team.

This is a really exciting project, based within our School of Health and Social Wellbeing, led by Dr Ilhem Berrou and Professor Lorna Fraser in collaboration with colleagues at other Higher Education Institutions and NHS Organisations.

The project starts on 1 June 2026 and will run for 18 months.

About You

We are looking for a self‑motivated individual with recent experience of conducting research within health or social care, and ideally with experience of co‑production and interviewing people about health services.

You’re skilled in collecting, analysing and interpreting research data, and have familiarity with the ethical and legal requirements for health research. You can effectively contribute to obtaining ethical approvals, report writing and dissemination. Experience of conducting qualitative research with parents/carers and children and young people is desirable.

This research involves working extensively with children and young people with health conditions, their families and healthcare professionals requiring strong skills in age‑appropriate communication, trauma‑informed practice, sensitivity and respect to family dynamics and cultures.

You’re well organised, possess strong communication skills and have the ability to work effectively as part of a team. You should be able to confidently manage your own workload, research resources and administrative activities.

UWE Bristol is a campus-based University, with vibrant campus communities that are central to student life.

In this role, you’ll be based at our Glenside Campus which is set within beautiful grounds in Stapleton, just three miles from Bristol city centre.

You’ll spend most of your time on campus, with some opportunity to work from home.
