About the Company
At Simpson Millar, we provide flexible working and a relaxed dress code, and more importantly colleagues who are on hand to assist your development. We’ve branded ourselves as The Open Lawyers, and that’s a commitment to both our clients and our colleagues. You’ll work with industry experts who work on high-profile cases and can help to shape and develop your career, giving you the coaching and mentoring that will allow you to flourish, and your caseload will be interesting and importantly manageable.
Life at Simpson Millar: Our Culture is key for us; it drives us and makes us who we are. We’re lawyers who exist to help people with their legal needs today and to improve the way the law works for people in the future. We provide trusted expert legal advice, quickly and clearly, every time.
There is change going on within the legal industry and in our firm too, so we need people who are adaptable to this, who embrace change and see the opportunity. The future of our business is one that is technology and data driven, so we need people who have the mindset and technological expertise to grow with us. But most of all we need team players who will be willing to work with others, but are accountable for their own work, and who want to achieve great results for both our firm and especially our clients.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Legal Risk Assessor to join our high-performing Success Team, helping us shape the quality of cases we onboard and the client experience from day one. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified legal professional with strong clinical negligence experience, preferably a qualified Solicitor with around four years of post-qualification experience (PQE) who thrives on making informed decisions, supporting colleagues, and playing a key role in connecting clients with the legal expertise they need.
Responsibilities
* Reviewing referred and self-accepted legal enquiries to assess case success potential
* Ensuring each case aligns with Simpson Millar’s risk appetite and onboarding criteria
* Coaching and guiding our Contact Centre Senior Advisors to improve case quality and consistency
* Acting as a key point of contact between the Contact Centre and legal practice areas
* Contributing to process improvements and identifying commercial trends or opportunities
Qualifications
* Legal qualification or equivalent experience in a law firm or legal services environment
Required Skills
* A strong background in clinical negligence
* Strong decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail and risk
* Previous experience coaching or developing colleagues
* A commercial mindset with the ability to balance client care, revenue, and business goals
* Strong IT and analytical skills, including case management systems and data manipulation
* Adaptability to change
Pay range and compensation package
Salary: Up to £40K + Annual Bonus + Excellent Benefits; 27 days leave, option to purchase up to 5 days more, flexible working, achievable annual bonus, 4 x death in service (which we hope you’d never have to claim) sick pay, 4% company pension contribution, EAP, retail rewards benefits and staff discounts across legal functions.
Equal Opportunity Statement
Diversity and Inclusion: At Simpson Millar we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your previous experience doesn’t align perfectly with every element in the advert, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or for other roles in our firm.
Note to Agencies
If external support is required on a vacancy, the role will be released by individual invite to specific agencies on our PSL. Any speculative candidates sent to Simpson Millar will be considered a gift and no fees will be applicable.
