Job Description
Responsible to: Cleaning Supervisor or other authorised person.
Job Purpose: Undertake, as part of a team, the cleaning of any area within the premises, designated by the line manager.
1. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Sweep, suction clean, mop, dry buff, spray clean, spray wax, machine scrub and dry, strip and re-polish floors using appropriate equipment.
2. Clean and remove stains from soft floor surfaces (carpets/matting) using the appropriate cleaning method.
3. Clean toilet and shower areas including fixtures and fittings.
4. Clean, wash, and dust ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to 3.35 meters. Polish furniture where appropriate.
5. Empty and clean internal litter bins and remove litter to the designated collection points.
2. General Conditions
1. All duties must comply with: (a) The Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978; (b) Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments, Regulations, and other legal requirements; (c) The COSHH Regulations; (d) Codes of Practice.
2. All duties will be carried out in the normal working conditions of the job.
3. Cover colleagues on sick leave in line with Education Authority’s procedures.
4. Report absences as per the Education Authority’s procedures, completing and signing relevant forms with the Building Supervisor.
5. Wear protective clothing or workwear issued when performing cleaning duties.
6. Wear flat-soled, enclosed-toe footwear during cleaning duties.
7. Use and care for cleaning equipment properly; report any defects immediately.
8. Complete all necessary paperwork.
9. Perform duties within the employee's competence, including tasks at the same grade or lower.
3. Training
1. Employees will accept training for higher-level duties if required; payment is contingent on the authority’s requirement to perform such duties.
2. Employees must accept training for their current duties, including induction and refresher training.
In accordance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998), the post-holder is expected to promote good relations, equality of opportunity, and comply with equality legislation at all times.
Posts involving work in educational institutions are subject to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. The successful applicant will require an enhanced disclosure check, costing £33. Further details will be provided with the employment contract.
