Overview
Our client, a leading water sector specialist, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to be based in Huddersfield.
This role is working within the water sector and previous water experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and review detailed mechanical design documentation for pumping systems, pipework layouts, filtration units, and water and wastewater treatment systems.
* Collaborate closely with civil and electrical engineering teams to deliver fully integrated, multidisciplinary solutions.
* Participate in regular client meetings, including weekly progress updates and hazard reviews, ensuring alignment with project goals and client expectations.
* Coordinate with the supply chain to specify, select, and procure mechanical equipment in line with project specifications.
* Conduct site visits to carry out surveys, inspections, and reviews of installation progress.
* Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
* Support effective communication and coordination with all stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Effective time management and execution of work within defined timelines.
Required Skills & Experience

* Degree/HNC/HND qualified or similar in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline
* Proven experience in mechanical system design within the water or wastewater sector.
* Familiarity with UK water industry standards and best practices, including WIMES.
* Proficient in interpreting and producing P&IDs, mechanical layouts, and technical specifications.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across teams and with clients.
* Full UK driving licence, with flexibility to travel to site when required.
* Experience with 3D design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit.
* Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it (e.g., through IMechE).
