Hours of work: 37-40 hours per week, Mon-Fri
About the Role
Looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our client's Project Design Team in Preston, Lancashire, as a C&I Design Engineer. The selected individual would become a key member of the Project Design Team, responsible for delivering CE&I Designs for small to medium-sized projects across the Nuclear Licensed Site. Occasionally, the candidate would work alongside external design partners within the supply chain to support their engineering design outputs, complementing the site-based design team.
Duties include overseeing all aspects of CE&I Engineering designs, from concept to detailed design, ensuring compliance with functional & nuclear safety requirements. The individual should be familiar with relevant internal, national (UK), and international standards, UK Office of Nuclear Regulation Nuclear Site Licence Conditions, and Environmental requirements, ensuring all designs are fully compliant while managing delivery to meet project timelines. Typical work packages include development of CE&I designs, final installation/commissioning, and hand-over to the end user, including generation of engineering drawings, calculations, equipment specifications, design governance documentation, commissioning, and substantiation documentation.
The role offers an opportunity to work in an exciting, growing environment, delivering CE&I design packages for new facilities, operational production plants, laboratories, and site infrastructure support departments.

Skills And Competencies
- Good understanding of CE&I engineering principles in the nuclear industry or similar highly regulated industry.
- Knowledge of project processes such as design, project management, estimating/cost control, planning, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
- Experience in coordinating and supervising CE&I designers, CAD operators, and junior engineers, with the ability to provide technical advice and guidance.
- Proficiency with 21st-century engineering tools like AutoCAD, Inventor/3D Design Software, Vault, Trimble Amtech, Sistema, etc.
Education and Experience
- A minimum of a 2:1 BEng (Hons) degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Alternatively, significant experience in a CE&I engineering field with supporting qualifications may be considered.
- Several years of experience in CE&I project delivery and design in an office environment.
