Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide robust, conscientious leadership and will be responsible for the management of Point of Care testing (POCT) across the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board including Grange University Hospital, Royal Gwent Hospital and Nevill Hall Hospital. The role is a band 8a position and requires an MSC level qualification or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
* Lead the technical aspects of the POCT service for the Health Board.
* Collaborate with the Clinical Lead to manage procurement of POCT equipment across the Health Board.
* Line manage POCT Coordinators, technical and support staff within the POCT service.
* Provide complex written reports to the POCT operational group, Health Board POCT committee, Clinical Governance Committee and Directorate on all issues relating to the POCT service.
* Manage training and quality management pertinent to the POCT service across the Health Board.
* Hold budgetary responsibility, with the Clinical Lead for POCT, for expenditure within the POCT service.
* Ensure the HB POCT Policy and Strategy are implemented and quality standards for the service are maintained in conjunction with the Clinical Lead for POCT.
Essential Qualifications
* HCPC registered BMS with evidence of ongoing CPD.
* BSc or equivalent qualification in relevant Life Science.
* MSc or equivalent qualification.
* Management qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
* Specialist Diploma in a Pathology discipline.
* Training qualification.
* Quality management qualification.
Essential Experience
* Relevant post registration experience in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
* Experience in a supervisory role.
* Experience of the operation and maintenance of POCT devices.
* Experience of basic Office IT programmes e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, databases.
* Experience of laboratory information management systems.
* Experience of undertaking audits.
* Experience in the use of procurement systems such as Oracle.
Desirable Experience
* Experience in the use of procurement systems such as Oracle.
* Experience of procurement projects or other project management.
* Experience of clinical liaison with other departments/GPs.
Essential Skills

* Knowledge of a discipline within Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
* Knowledge of external quality assurance schemes.
* Knowledge of the importance of data integrity and confidentiality.
* Knowledge of ISO standards.
Desirable Knowledge
* Knowledge of more than one discipline in Biomedical Science.
* Specialist knowledge of POCT services.
* Knowledge of national guidance and legislation governing POCT.
Special Requirements
* Will be required to work across the organisation so must be able to travel between sites throughout HB when required.
