Overview
The Training Programme Director in General Adult Psychiatry for Greater Manchester and Lancashire will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the School of Psychiatry. The role will be split across two part‑time posts, each valued at one full PA. Historically, this approach has worked well and will be followed again, with two candidates appointed.
The post holder will lead on the development of the School’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy, contribute to the School Operational Programme, and serve as a member of the School Board. As a result of NHS England’s integration into the Department of Health and Social Care, all new educator appointments will end on 31 March 2027, with potential extensions beyond this date considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
Time commitment: the preferred contractual office base will spend at least 40% of working time in‑person on site.
Responsibilities
* Lead the Specialty’s Regional Training Programme.
* Manage specialty‑specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
* Recruit and place trainees into training posts and programmes.
* Oversee postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, out‑of‑program (OOP) management, trainee management, careers support, less‑than‑full‑time training, inter‑deanery transfer, academic training and related work‑streams.
* Ensure compliance with national standards set by the Royal College and guidelines of General Adult Psychiatry.
* Improve learner supervision, assessment and experience; engage faculty and secure effective educational outcomes.
* Foster whole workforce transformation and develop multi‑professional links.
Qualifications
* Experienced NHS Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry operating within the region.
* Proven leadership and communication skills.
* Strong understanding of specialty training requirements, national standards and recruitment processes.
* Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi‑professional team.
