We are looking for Salaried GPs to join oursurgery and make a real difference to the local community. Join us on ourjourney to improvement. Merchiston Surgery has circa 14,000 patients supportedby a well-established partnership.

The successful candidate will benefit from a'shared learning' environment and dedicated admin time. We have reduced our onthe day triage by developing new ways of working.

We are able to offer Tier 2 sponsorship.

We are looking for enthusiastic,self-motivated salaried GPs to fill up to 4 sessions, joining a strongmanagement team, putting excellence & safe patient care at the heart ofeverything we do. Significant improvements have already been made with theinfrastructure at the surgery, with a refurbished waiting room and a newtelephone system now in place.


Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a Salaried GP for 4 sessions

All normal duties and responsibilitiesassociated with a GP working within primary care.

About us

The Merchiston practice was established around1860 in the village of Stratton-St-Margaret. Until the 1950s, Stratton was asmall farming community and it still retains its separate identity, despite nowbeing a suburb of Swindon. The Partnership moved from the original Doctorshouse into new purpose-built premises in 1992.

Merchiston Surgery is the largest Practice inWHP with a raw patient list of 13,500 (13,700 weighted list)

Merchiston Surgery has 6 GP Partners

We are a teaching practice with 2 EducationSupervisors, 1 Clinical Supervisor, supporting 3 Trainee GPs. Rated excellent by the Swindon GP QA Panel for our trainee placement.

The Practice is also supported by several ARRSroles employed by Hawthorn & Merchiston PCN

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will deal with a wide range of health needs in a primarycare setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered andtemporary patients. Responsibilities will reflect requirements of the NHS GPContracts, and as such may be subject to change as services adapt.

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holderwill make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, includingsurgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patientsat home, checking, and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries,paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presentingproblems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workerswithin the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated andundiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Developing management plans for health in consultation with patients andin line with current practice disease management protocols.

Providing patients with support, advice, and health education.

Admitting patients to hospital and referring to other care providers asappropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreedstandards

Collecting data for audit purposes when agreed.

Compiling and issuing electronic acute and repeat prescriptions(avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible.)

Prescribing in accordance with the ICB formulary (or generically)whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normalduties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Weekly on-call duties pro rata.

The above list of duties is not exhaustive and may be subject to changeas deemed necessary.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practicepolicies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, healthand safety.

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-basedbest practice.

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting withinthe organisation when agreed.

Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-codingpatient data as appropriate.

Attending training and events organised by thepractice or other agencies, where appropriate


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working in a primary care environment Experience of continued professional development Experience of QOF and clinical audit Knowledge of the NHS General understanding of the GMS contract Understanding of the current issues and challenges facing primary care Ability to make good, clear, concise medical notes, both computerised and manual Outstanding level of clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with that of an experienced GP Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) Strong IT skills Clear, polite telephone manner Competent in the use of Office and Outlook Effective time management (Planning & Organising) Commitment to education and training Ability to work as a team member and autonomously Excellent interpersonal skills Problem solving & analytical skills Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure Flexibility to work outside of core office hours Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check Car Owner/driver
* Knowledge and experience in using SystmOne


Qualifications

* Qualified GP Full GMC registration
* Minimum of two years as a salaried GP Experience of medicines management Experience of ICB (formerly CCG) initiatives
