Product Safety Manager
Location: Cheadle
Thales Underwater Systems covers a broad portfolio of engineering challenges, working at the forefront of remotely operated unmanned vehicles for maritime and naval operations, the introduction of new sonar capabilities to surface and submarine platforms worldwide, and support for all Thales in-service sonar systems.
We are currently recruiting for a Product Safety Manager to lead safety engineering tasks for major projects, including autonomous system developments and naval programmes.
Responsibilities
1. Lead safety engineering activities for UWS projects, ensuring timely delivery of safety artefacts and requirements.
2. Act as the main safety expertise contact, supporting the Project Design Authority and engineering teams.
3. Coordinate safety-related activities with customer representatives.
4. Ensure safety management aligns with Thales processes and customer requirements, including standards like Def Stan 00-056 or MIL STD 882.
5. Raise concerns about product safety or policy application and lead investigations to resolve issues.
6. Support the UWS Safety Assurance Manager and Safety Authority to ensure project safety.
Experience and Skills Required
1. Deep knowledge of Safety Management Processes and experience in Safety Engineering activities.
2. Experience with hazard identification, assessment techniques, and hazard log systems.
3. Knowledge of environmental, material, and safety legislation and standards.
4. Experience in the Defence domain or similar safety-critical fields is desirable.
5. Knowledge of Functional and/or Software Safety, with familiarity with Def Stan 00-055 or IEC 61508, is advantageous.
6. Understanding of engineering lifecycle management.
Security Clearance
This role requires SC Clearance. Candidates should be prepared to undergo and maintain SC Clearance, with residence in the UK for the last 5 years generally required.
