Clinical Lead - Acute Oncology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical lead for the Acute Oncology Service in NSECH. The post holder must have expert knowledge of acute oncology management and the complexities that patients present with following cancer treatment. The post holder will work with the Acute Oncology nursing team in delivering the Trusts Non‑surgical Oncology agenda, linking in with other relevant specialities to deliver a robust model of care in Northumbria Healthcare Trust and in particular the emergency care hospital (NSECH).
Responsibilities
* Ensure AO services are fit for purpose to provide a safe and effective service in the Trust.
* Work with existing services to provide care and advice for AO patients in line with regional and national workstreams (e.g., SDEC model).
* Service development and ensuring national and regional standards are met.
* Ensure diagnostic services are appropriate and timely.
* Collaborate with palliative care, primary care, ambulance, mental health and social services to ensure interface services are fit for purpose.
* Contribute to recruitment and selection of Consultant Medical and senior nursing staff.
* Ensure that Medical annual appraisals are carried out as required.
* Participate in job planning for consultant medical staff.
* Strategic planning of clinical services in Acute Oncology management and pathways.
* Assessment of AO patients as defined in clinical and national guidelines.
* Act as clinical lead for the AO service, promoting and supporting the AO agenda within the Trust and representing at appropriate meetings/groups, both external and internal.
* Deliver the Business Unit – Non‑Surgical Oncology objectives within its services.
* Clinical management of the service, ensuring clinical standards are met and working towards the Non‑Surgical Oncology agenda and performance at a service and individual level.
* Support operational teams to achieve delivery of financial balance based on the national tariff.
Qualifications
* Essential
* MRCP Certificate or an equivalent higher qualification.
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to gain entry to UK CCT.
* Fully registered on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register to be eligible for a Consultant appointment.
* Require maintenance of full GMC registration and revalidation, following the GMC Code of Good Medical Practice.
* Experience and knowledge in cancer/oncology/acute oncology pathways.
* Audit and quality improvement engagement.
* Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating teaching to a variety of audiences.
* Desirable
* Experience caring for patients on oncological treatments.
* Experience and knowledge of caring for patients with cancer, oncological treatments and acute oncological presentations.

Salary: £113,565 to £150,569 a year pro rata per annum
