Senior Design Engineer - SolidWorks Permanent Full-Time
Location – Office based in Deeside
Join a leading UK manufacturer of trailers and transport solutions, operating across multiple advanced production sites. The business is the European market leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of trailers for agriculture, commercial, and leisure.
We’re seeking a Senior Design Engineer to act as the project lead and product expert, managing robust products from concept through to production. This is a hands-on, office-based role offering the opportunity to influence the full engineering lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for validating designs, driving improvements across the product portfolio, and supporting cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality, innovative transport solutions.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to
* Taking the lead in designing current and future key products for the company
* Project managing the design, layout of trailers, and related engineering (e.g., chassis, axles, suspension castings, and hydraulics)
* Production of conceptual designs leading to design evaluation and Design for Manufacture (DFM)
* Ensure all designs are appropriately validated, completed to company standards, and delivered within agreed timescales (including ISO and EU automotive regulations)
* Design verification/checking and authority for engineering change release
* BoM creation and configuration management
* Supervision of prototype and development builds to support on-site testing reliability/fatigue endurance trials
* Support the R&D/Test department in the design of test rigs
* Continuously improve the existing product portfolio through design-led VAVE initiatives and DFM improvements
Experiences required
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar subject (or equivalent training and experience)
* 3D CAD modelling and detailed drafting experience (preferably SolidWorks or similar)
* Demonstrable experience managing projects from inception to completion
* Proven delivery of relatable products or engineering, specifically in automotive, industrial, or agricultural/off-road engineering
* Experience in Design for Manufacture for prototype and volume castings and machined components
* Experience of hydraulic systems and electronic controls interface
