About the Role
This role forms part of the Revenue Accounting team, which is designed to ensure a high
level of integrity of data within the Springer Nature accounts whilst providing a support service to the business in the areas of financial accounting, management reporting, tax, and editorial across Springer Nature for the Research and Education divisions.
The main purpose of this role is to prepare a number of monthly accounting entries for local and global revenues ensuring that our accounting is in in line with international accounting standards, with internal accounting guidelines, and with contracted agreements with customers. This role works closely with Management Reporting colleagues in order to manage the flow of revenue information to and from the business. This role also includes some specialised ad hoc work falling outside of our regular accounting calendar, such as system implementation projects, automation and enhancing efficiency using AI. This Revenue Accountant position would suit someone who is at least part qualified in a recognised accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA), and who has previous experience working in a revenue accounting role.
This role can be in our Basingstoke office on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Using a variety of data sources to calculate appropriate journal entries each month.
2. Working with Management Reporting colleagues to ensure revenue related journal entries are accurate from a financial reporting and management reporting perspective across multiple legal entities globally.
3. Obtaining and reviewing customer contracts to ensure that our revenue accounting is in line with professional accounting standards, internal accounting guidelines, and contractual obligations.
4. Co-ordinating relevant processes in Business teams and Accounts Receivable invoicing teams to ensure that our revenues are invoiced accurately and appropriately on a timely basis, contributing to the overall responsibility of managing the revenue accruals.
5. Perform P&L and Balance sheet reconciliations between multiple data sources and the finance systems to a high degree of accuracy and understanding.
6. Contribute to the year-end audit work as required, and to other ad hoc projects as required.
7. Work with IT based colleagues to ensure the transactional data held within the general ledger is correct.
8. Use Power Automate and Power BI solutions to improve workflows, reduce manual work and create efficiencies, while maintaining highest standards of quality.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
9. Strong academic background within accounting and finance, with a desire to continue studying towards an accounting qualification such as ACCA or CIMA.
10. Must have strong attention to detail and accuracy.
11. Must have the ability to communicate effectively to colleagues of all levels within the business.
12. Must have experience of reviewing and understanding contracts with customers.
13. Must be familiar with International Accounting Standards, with particular focus on those related to revenue recognition.
14. Must have experience of using SAP and preferably SAP business warehouse.
15. Must good experience of using Microsoft and Google software and advanced knowledge of Excel.
16. Keen to learn new systems, help develop new processes and comfortable with large data sets.
Desirable
17. Experience of intercompany accounting in multiple currencies would be a distinct advantage.
18. Knowledge and abilities of Power Automate and Power Query platform would be highly beneficial.
