Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Microbiology department. The laboratory is well-equipped, fully computerised, UKAS accredited, and approved for training. It handles over 250,000 specimens annually and provides diagnostic microbiology services to The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole Hospital, and general practices.
The successful candidate will support the microbiology team in providing diagnostic services, contributing to patient care and infection control, supporting Biomedical Scientists and staff. The role is varied and requires flexibility. Training will be provided, and the role includes covering staff leave across sections.
This is an exciting time as services are being reconfigured across Dorset.
Working hours are 30 per week, including participation in a weekend rota.

Main duties of the job
Post-training, MLAs will perform laboratory procedures including processing diagnostic specimens. Precision, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential. They will provide professional, helpful service to patients and staff.
