You will be responsible for the management and strategic development of the school’s Learning Resource Centre, fostering a lifelong love of reading and supporting independent research across the curriculum. The library is a vital hub for the school’s academic life, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to transform the space into a modern, digital-ready environment that meets the needs of 21st-century learners. Key Responsibilities Managing the daily operation of the school library, including the lending, return, and cataloguing of resources Curating and maintaining a diverse, high-quality collection of books, academic journals, and digital media Supporting students with research skills, information literacy, and advanced academic referencing Leading high-profile literacy events, such as World Book Day, Carnegie Medal shadowing, and author visits Managing the library budget, supervising students during study periods, and training student librarians Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and purposeful atmosphere for the whole school community Liaising with Department Heads to ensure that resources effectively support the GCSE and A-Level curriculum The Ideal Candidate Will Have A degree or professional qualification in Librarianship (desirable) or significant library/information management experience A genuine passion for literature and a commitment to supporting the academic growth of young people Strong ICT skills and experience with modern Library Management Systems (LMS) Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a quiet, high-standard study environment The ability to engage and inspire students of all ages, from reluctant readers to high-achieving A-Level scholars Salary Competitive (Pro-rata, dependent on experience) Application To apply for this Librarian position in Gloucester, please submit your CV.
