Job overview

Clinical Educator Band 6 - 15 hours per week

An exciting role has become available within the clinical skills team.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery of a variety of educational programmes in core clinical skills and other key areas of patient safety. The post holder will promote a proactive approach to education, learning and maintaining the highest standards of evidence based clinical practice at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation trust.

Main duties of the job

Utilising different educational techniques in delivering practical and theoretical teaching in core clinical skills and other aspects of patient safety.

Delivery of programmes through contemporary healthcare education, promote and maintain excellent standards of nursing practice, multi-professional team working, effective communication, optimal patient safety and robust infection control practices.

Collaborating with and develop effective working partnerships with other members of the Corporate Practice Development Team and wider team to deliver education and training in core clinical skills and key aspects of clinical care relating to patient safety.

Working independently and collaboratively to ensure effective organisation, design, delivery and ongoing development of educational programmes.

Facilitating the development and acquisition of skills and knowledge within an inter-professional educational context.

Designing, developing, implementing, deliver and facilitate inter-professional teaching programmes to enhance the delivery of contemporary evidenced based care.

The development and building of new programmes in line with trust-wide training needs analysis

Essential criteria

1. To provide clinical expertise and education to health professionals
2. Experienced and proficient in core clinical skills
3. Ability to apply advance theoretical knowledge to the clinical setting
4. To have a grounded knowledge of national documents and recommendations for practice in key aspects of clinical skills and patient safety
5. Ability to transfer and adapt skills from previous knowledge and experience
6. Proven skill in presentation techniques and group facilitation
7. Facilitate the development of both experienced and junior staff providing support and assistance in their own professional and academic development
8. Effective verbal and non-verbal communication and interpersonal skills
9. Ability to co-ordinate work within a multi-professional team with varying levels of seniority
10. To have proven organisational skills
11. To assist other staff members in their time management and ability to prioritise workload
12. Demonstrate a problem solving approach to work
13. Intermediate information and technology skills
14. To ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors
15. To act as an autonomous practitioner within professional and clinical guidelines
16. Ensure staff adhere to national, Trust and local policies, procedures and guidelines
17. Demonstrate advanced leadership
18. Commitment to and demonstrate ability to undertake audit and research studies that positively impact on practice

Qualifications

Essential criteria

19. Degree Level Registered General Nurse
20. Relevant Professional Degree
21. Certificate in Education or equivalent teaching certificate

Experience

Essential criteria

22. Experience working at a senior level
23. Evidence of teaching core clinical skills.
