An exciting opportunity has arisen at Broadmoor High Secure Hospital for a 6‑month secondment opportunity for the Retention and Support Manager role.

The post‑holder will provide essential leadership in shaping and sustaining the Trust’s staff retention strategy. They will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and monitoring comprehensive retention plans for permanent and temporary staff, while taking strategic ownership of the induction process to ensure every new starter receives a consistent, supportive, and high‑quality introduction to their role, team, and the wider organisation.

The role requires the ability to analyse workforce data, identify trends, and translate insights into evidence‑based interventions that support long‑term retention. Alongside strategic planning, the post‑holder will deliver training, coaching, and ongoing support to managers and teams, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to address retention issues effectively.

Drawing on specialist expertise, they will advise on complex or sensitive matters and work collaboratively with HR, education, operational services, and senior leadership to develop compassionate, aligned solutions. They will also contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing existing processes, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and ensuring all initiatives reflect best practice and support the Trust’s commitment to staff wellbeing, professional development, and high‑quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

Strategic Retention and Service Development – to lead on ensuring the Trust has the right nursing and other professional staff in the right numbers through actively engaging with all internal and external stakeholders

Reporting and Workforce Planning – providing the organisation with high quality reporting in respect of retention initiatives now and in the future

Retention – ensure the Trust’s retention process delivers high quality support and advise to recruits who are able to provide high quality care in line with the trust’s values

Staff Bank – support retention efforts to the Trust’s Staff Bank with the aim of reducing reliance on overtime hours and assuring quality of Bank Workers

Support– work with nursing colleagues to ensure that nursing and other professionals staff turnover is addressed and key staff are retained

Provide line management to the 2 Staff Support and Liaison Practitioners and provide 6 monthly reports to SMT.

Provide an annual report to the Trust board on Retention issues and strategy
