Overview

We have a vacancy for a Peer Support Worker within the Home Treatment Team. This role is designed for people with lived experience of mental health challenges. The Peer Support Worker will inspire hope and recovery, support service users to gain control over their lives, and provide practical assistance to move towards recovery. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, across mental health wards and in the community, supporting service users during transitions between services. This is a 37.5 hour per week role. This position may not be eligible for Skilled Worker sponsorship; please refer to the Direct Gov website for eligibility information. Livewell may close the advert earlier than the deadline. All staff are expected to work across a 7 day service.


Main duties

* Work with a number of service users on a 1:1 or group basis.
* Form and maintain supportive relationships to support recovery and independence.
* Act as a suitable role model.
* Accompany service users to appointments with Community Mental Health teams, Third Sector agencies and Inpatient Wards; participate in exposure work and attend group sessions.
* Attend meetings and other formal/informal communications as directed by management.
* Liaise with other agencies as required to support care delivery.
* Share ideas about recovery goals, drawing on personal experience and a range of coping and self-management techniques.
* Assist service users to create recovery plans and record decisions about their treatment.
* Build trusted relationships to help service users identify and overcome anxieties.
* Model personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy and hopefulness.
* Monitor mental health and report changes to clinical staff; work towards recovery with service users and carers.
* Encourage social and physical activities as identified in the care plan.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibility for People Management
Be involved in the ongoing development of the PSW training programme and evaluation of the PWP role. Participate in training and learning activities with other team members.

* The post holder will have no direct responsibility for finance but will adhere to LWSW policies on financial issues.
* Use Livewell resources in a sustainable way.
* Have knowledge of counter fraud.

Responsibility for Administration
Plan own diary and maintain accurate records; keep electronic records up to date; maintain confidentiality and follow policies; regularly access email and intranet.

Responsibilities for People Who Use Our Services
Work with service users 1:1 or in groups; form supportive relationships; promote better mental health; accompany service users to appointments; attend meetings; liaise with other agencies; share recovery ideas; assist in creating recovery plans and recording decisions; support users to overcome fears; model responsibility and hope; monitor mental health and report changes; promote independence and recovery; respond to concerns of abuse; participate in activity programmes; record contacts and observations; maintain boundaries and limits.

Policy/Service Developments
Abide by the PSW code of conduct; comply with Livewell policies; report unprofessional behaviour or incidents; participate in audits and service development; complete mandatory training and other role-specific training.

Other Responsibilities
Be aware of personal limits and competencies; punctual and professional conduct.


Person Specification

Experience
Essential: Lived experience of using mental health services; previous care experience with people who have mental health difficulties. Desirable: Multidisciplinary team experience; helping individuals identify and work toward personal goals in health or social care settings.

Skills
Essential: Time management, ability to complete clinical records, take guidance from qualified staff, work in a team, and provide accurate feedback. Ability to plan work and collaborate effectively.

Knowledge
Essential: Knowledge of mental health, safeguarding awareness, basic IT, good communication and listening, organizational and problem-solving skills, professional boundaries, and willingness to share lived experiences to support service users. Desirable: Basic understanding of physical health presentation.

Qualifications
Essential: Level III vocational qualification or equivalent; NCFE Level 2 in understanding and supporting people with mental health needs and Care Certificate within six months of joining if not already obtained. Desirable: QCF Level 3 in health and social care or equivalent; additional relevant training or development.
