This is a Fixed term post for 6 months
The position will be key post in the department dedicated towards the running of Schiehallion Daycare and ward in children and young adults with cancer. The LAT post holder will work closely with other members of the multi disciplinary team carrying out review of patients attending daycare and participating in clinical studies / trials in children and teenagers with Cancer at the Royal Hospital for Children. The team comprises of paediatric oncologists, haematologists, research nurses, specialty trainees, clinical trial coordinator, data managers and pharmacists. The post holder will be involved in the care of children and young people undergoing treatment for benign and malignant haematological conditions as well as solid intracranial and extracranial tumours. The team has strengthened the high quality standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and developed external links with academic and industrial sponsors. Patients are referred from other centres in Scotland and there has been very positive feedback from referring clinicians, their shared care colleagues and the family themselves about the service of these patients. The team works to an excellent patient care level, with strong pharmaco-vigilance.
The post holder will also have an opportunity to develop an interest in leukaemia/ lymphomas, neuroblastoma, neuro oncology, sarcoma and other solid tumours.
The post holder will be responsible for reviewing patients on clinical trials, both in the in and outpatient wards. The post holder will receive training in The post holder will work closely with radiology colleagues, requesting the imaging assessments of patients undergoing treatment
The post is suitable for trainees paediatric trainees wishing to gain further experience in paediatric haematology /oncology / SCT. The post holder will be in an ideal position to acquire new skills and expertise as well as have the opportunity to develop their own projects.
Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance, Communications
The postholder must be aware of clinical governance and clinical risk management and take an active part in their implementation, including audits. The post-holder will be expected to communicate and develop good working relations with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
On-Call Commitment
The post holder will take part in paediatric haematology/oncology rota at SpR/ST level.
Annual Leave / Study Leave
As per GGC policy. Study leave is available for up to 15 days per annum on the same conditions as apply to the Paediatric ST trainees
Salary
Salary is paid on the Specialty Registrar salary scale. Starting point on this scale will be dependent on previous experience but is likely to be at ST3 level.
