Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor
Section: Functional Skills
Reports To: Head of Operations
Purpose of the Role
The Functional Skills Tutor is responsible for delivering high-quality training in Literacy, Numeracy, Digital Skills (including IT qualifications) & our Employability program to support learners undertaking apprenticeships and Adult Skills programs. This role ensures that all learners achieve their full potential, in line with awarding bodyrequirements, national standards, and NSEG’s commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Delivery.
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Functional Skills sessions in Literacy, Numeracy, Digital Skills & Employability both in-center, at workplace locations, and via online platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
Utilise Century for Initial Diagnostic Assessments to identify learner skill levels and create personalised Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
Regularly review and update ILPs to reflect learner progress, ensuring timely achievement of qualifications.
Develop, adapt, and maintain high-quality teaching resources, including schemes of work, lesson plans, handouts, assignments, and assessments.
Support learners to meet NOCN standards, provide constructive feedback, marking, and SPAG checks.
Identify and support learners with additional needs, ensuring appropriate interventions are in place.
Responsible for Quality & Compliance in all areas.
Manage allocated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to achieve or exceed targets for learner progress,achievement, and timely completion.
Maintain accurate learner records, progress trackers, and registers in line with funding and awarding bodyrequirements.
Provide timely learner registration and completion data to the Training and Administration teams for NOCN and Yeti systems.
Contribute to maintaining NSEG’s direct claim status by upholding awarding organisation quality requirements.
Keep up to date with developments in Functional Skills and relevant national standards.
Liaise effectively with Training Officers, employers, and other stakeholders to support learner’s progress.
Participate professionally in OFSTED inspections, awarding organisation visits, and Department for Education (DfE) monitoring.
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of delivery.
Undertake continuous professional development (CPD), maintaining an up-to-date CPD record and relevantoccupational competence.
Identify opportunities for new qualification delivery, preparing schemes of work and lesson plans as required.
Assist management with curriculum development initiatives, including new programs such as Digital Skills.
Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the management team in line with the role.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience delivering Functional Skills in Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Skills.
Recognised Teaching Qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training or equivalent).
Excellent Communication, Interpersonal, and Organisational Skills.
High level of IT competency, including Microsoft Office applications.
Strong Administrative Skills and Attention to Detail.
Full, Clean Driving Licence & access to own vehicle (Business Insurance required).
Enhanced DBS check.

Working Pattern & Conditions (Part Time and Full Time Considered)Part Time, 24 hours per week (three days 8.30am – 5.00pm, Monday - Thursday).Full Time 37.5 hours per week.Monday to Thursday 8:30am–5:00pm and Friday 9.00am – 3.00pm(with occasional evenings if required). Travel to learner workplaces as necessary.General Responsibilities

Comply with all NSEG policies, procedures, and health & safety requirements.
Demonstrate high standards of customer service.
Actively participate in the appraisal process and personal development planning.
