To assist registered nurses in delivering evidence-based care to patients/clients, working in partnership with other healthcare professionals, patients, their families, and carers.
Deliver patient care as documented in the nursing care plan. Carry out a wide range of duties under supervision for the duration of the shift.
Main duties of the job
* Assist the registered nurse to deliver a high standard of holistic patient care, ensuring that the patients' dignity and equality are maintained at all times.
* Ensure the principles set out in the fundamentals of care are incorporated into daily practice to provide high-quality service for patients and clients.
* Assist patients in maintaining their own hygiene and personal appearance.
* Perform duties within the plan of care delegated by a qualified practitioner, only for which he/she has relevant training and assessment.
* Prepare ward/clinical area for receiving patients by ensuring the area is clean and tidy—assist in maintaining standards in the clinical area and report any untidiness or clutter to the appropriate person.
* Assist in the admission of new patients to the ward by preparing the bed area, welcoming the patient, directing them to their bed or other area, and showing them around the ward.
* Complete patient menu cards involving patients in the process, considering any dietary instructions identified by a qualified nurse.
* Participate in protected mealtime for patients by ensuring they receive their meals and beverages in a timely and safe manner, ensuring hands are washed and the environment is conducive to mealtimes (e.g., preparing the bed area).
