Join our dynamic team of world-renowned neuroscientists and contribute to groundbreaking research that has the potential to transform lives.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pre-clinical Research Assistant to join our growing research and development team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the exciting field of gene therapy delivery to the brain within a medical device context, working alongside some of the greatest minds in the field. This role will support pre-clinical studies, contributing to the evaluation of novel delivery systems and therapeutic approaches for our pharmaceutical partners. Duties will involve a blend of in-vivo work, logistical organization, data analysis, and documentation. We believe this is a fantastic opportunity for a recent BSc graduate looking to gain hands-on experience prior to continuing on to graduate studies in neuroscience or medicine.

Responsibilities:

Protocol Development & Review: Assist in the drafting, review, and revision of pre-clinical study protocols, ensuring adherence to scientific rigor, local and international regulatory guidelines including, but not limited to: GLP principles where applicable, as well as IACUC and AWERB, and internal SOPs.

Surgical Planning & Support: Collaborate with senior researchers and our pharmaceutical partners on surgical planning for in-vivo studies, including experimental design, in vivo model selection, routes of administration, and identifying necessary instrumentation and resources. Provide logistical support throughout the planning phase of studies, as well as hands-on support during surgical procedures.

Tissue Preparation & Analysis: Perform meticulous tissue collection, processing, and preparation for various downstream analyses (e.g., histology, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology techniques). This may include perfusions, dissections, and cryosectioning. Serve as primary point of contact for third party collaborators performing tissue analysis.

Data Collection & Management: Accurately record and manage experimental data, ensuring data integrity and organization.

Equipment Maintenance: Assist with routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.

Literature Review: Conduct targeted literature searches to support experimental design and interpret research findings.

General Lab Support: Contribute to general lab duties, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and ensuring a clean and organized work environment.

Reporting: Assist in the preparation of study reports and presentations, summarizing findings and contributing to scientific discussions.

Required Qualifications:

Currently pursuing, or recent graduate of a Bachelor’s, Master's degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Pharmacology, Veterinary Studies, or a related scientific discipline.

Strong theoretical understanding of neuroanatomy and neurobiology, particularly as it relates to the brain.

Demonstrated experience with, or strong theoretical knowledge of pre-clinical research methodologies, including in-vivo studies.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail in documentation.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Embody the character attributes of the Ideal Team Player: humility, hunger for results, and emotional intelligence.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior hands-on experience in a pre-clinical research laboratory setting, especially with the handling of large pre-clinical specimens, surgery, or tissue processing.

Familiarity with gene therapy principles and viral vectors.

Understanding of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles.

What We Offer:

An invaluable opportunity to contribute to, and potentially publish, cutting-edge research in a high-impact field.

Mentorship from some of the most respected neuroscientists and engineers in this burgeoning field.

Exposure to the medical device development lifecycle.

A collaborative and innovative work environment.

An opportunity to travel globally and collaborate with top academic and industry researchers in the field.

Pay Range: £30k -£35k
