We’ve partnered with a well-established technology-led business providing payroll and production finance services to some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. They are looking for a Platform Engineer to join their IT Infrastructure team and play a key role in their move from Docker-based deployments to on-premises Kubernetes.
The business has cloud ambitions, but the immediate priority is building, securing and stabilising Kubernetes on physical infrastructure before future cloud migration. You’ll be working alongside an existing DevSecOps Engineer to help build out Kubernetes environments across dev, QA, production and DR, reduce vulnerabilities, improve deployment processes and support the wider software team as they move applications away from Docker.
The environment is hands-on and on-premises, with vanilla Kubernetes running on physical Dell servers, local storage, Longhorn, Calico networking and vulnerability management tooling such as Sysdig. You’ll need to be comfortable troubleshooting across Linux, Kubernetes, networking, storage, security and deployment pipelines. This role would suit someone who enjoys practical engineering, problem-solving and ownership, rather than someone looking purely for managed cloud Kubernetes or a highly abstracted platform environment.
Responsibilities
- Build, support and improve on-premise Kubernetes environments across development, QA, production and DR
- Help migrate applications from Docker-based deployments into Kubernetes
- Troubleshoot Kubernetes issues across networking, storage, configuration, security and application deployment layers
- Support Kubernetes networking and security controls, including Calico and network policies
- Use vulnerability scanning outputs to identify, prioritise and remediate critical and high-risk issues
- Develop and maintain automation scripts for deployment, configuration and operational tasks
- Support and improve Jenkins-led deployment processes, with plans around GitHub and Argo CD
- Work closely with software developers, infrastructure engineers, the Head of IT and CISO to improve security, resilience and release processes
- Contribute to Secure SDLC practices, threat modelling and security standards across build and deployment pipelines
Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on Linux experience, ideally across Red Hat / RHEL or similar distributions
- Good scripting or automation skills, ideally Bash, Python or Go
- Experience with CI/CD or deployment tooling such as Jenkins, GitHub, GitLab CI or Argo CD
- Understanding of Kubernetes networking, ingress, DNS, certificates, secrets, RBAC or network policies
- Knowledge of monitoring, logging, patching and production service support
- Good networking fundamentals across firewalls, routing, DNS, VLANs, VPNs or segmentation
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with development and infrastructure teams
- Comfortable working in a small, close-knit team where priorities can change quickly
