Belfast City Council is seeking a committed and respectful Cemetery Operative to join our Cemeteries and Crematorium team. This role is based on Church Road, Castlereagh BT8 9TD. This role plays an important part in supporting families and ensuring that burial and cremation services are delivered with dignity, professionalism and care. You will work as part of a team to carry out a range of operational duties including supporting funeral services, grave preparation, cremation processes and maintaining cemetery grounds to a high standard. Contract Details: This post will run from 8th April 2026 25th September 2026 Hours of work: Monday Thursday 8 to 4pm. Friday 8am 3:30pm Hourly Rate: £14.35 Key Responsibilities: Assist with the smooth delivery of funeral, burial and cremation services. Prepare graves and carry out burial operations using appropriate tools and equipment. Prepare chapels for services and assist mourners and funeral directors during services. Maintain cemetery grounds through grass cutting, planting, hedge trimming and general upkeep. Inspect memorials and headstones and report or address safety issues. This is a hands-on role offering variety, responsibility and the chance to make a real difference in the community. What We Need From You Grass cutting experience within a cemetery setting. Experience in grounds maintenance or commercial horticultural work (e.g, hedge trimming, planting, turfing, seed sowing, sweeping and litter removal). Experience of dealing with members of the public in a respectful, tactful and sensitive manner.
