Job Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on and proactive Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our warehouse facility. This role is critical to ensuring efficient inventory control, accurate and timely customer shipments, a secure site, and full compliance with health and safety standards. A valid forklift licence is essential.
This role is a key part of our senior leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
Warehouse Operations:
* Manage day-to-day warehouse activities including goods-in, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch.
* Ensure accurate and timely shipment of goods to meet customer expectations.
* Maintain an efficient warehouse layout to optimise workflow and space utilisation.
Stock Control:
* Maintain accurate stock levels, including cycle counts and regular stocktakes.
* Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
* Support continuous improvement of stock management processes.
Health & Safety:
* Ensure compliance with all H&S regulations and company safety policies.
* Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
* Promote a safe working culture and lead by example.
Site Security:
* Act as key holder with responsibility for site opening and closing procedures.
* Ensure the security of premises, stock, and company assets.
* Monitor site access and report any security issues.
Forklift Operations:
* Operate forklifts safely and efficiently.
* Maintain forklift and material handling equipment in accordance with safety standards.
Team Leadership:
* Supervise warehouse staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
* Provide training, support, and clear direction to the team.
* Support recruitment and development of warehouse personnel.
The successful candidate will:
* Lead and maintain ISO accreditation processes (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO14001), ensuring continuous compliance and quality management improvements
* Ensure UK compliance with NHS Evergreen and Cyber Essentials requirements
* Play a key role in shaping company procedures and operational best practices
Requirements:
* Proven experience in warehouse management or supervision
* Valid forklift licence (counterbalance and/or reach)
* Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, logistics, and stock control
* Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and site security protocols
* Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
* IT literacy, including familiarity with warehouse or ERP systems
* Must be local to Tunbridge Wells to support alarm call-outs and opening/closing
Desirable:
* Experience managing or working alongside customer service teams
* Familiarity with ISO standards, particularly ISO 9001
* First Aid or Fire Marshal certification
* Degree educated
