We are looking for an enthusiastic band 4 to join our Infant Feeding Team.

The Infant Feeding Support Worker is an integral role within the Antenatal & Postnatal care pathways. Working in a small team, you will work with the Infant Feeding Specialist Midwives to ensure a positive experience for those women requiring support in their feeding journey.

Main duties of the job

The Rotational Maternity Support worker will primarily work alongside the Midwives and Breast feeding Specialists in supporting mothers with their chosen method of feeding, assisting women to establish breast feeding and provide advice to women who choose to bottle feed.

Rotating between community and the hospital base, the rotational Maternity support worker will be responsible for providing parent education on a daily basis, organising daily group demonstrations for mothers and their partners, as well as attending breast feeding drop in clinics within the community when required. The role is varied including undertaking venepuncture, observations, colostrum collection, parent education, use of our electronic patient record, undertaking baby screening tests such as blood sugars, jaundice levels, newborn bloodspot screening and liaising with other health professionals. The rotational Maternity support worker will assist in the provision of high quality care to women and their families under the direction and supervision of the Midwifery Team. Demonstrate a range of skills to meet the needs of patients whilst promoting dignity, privacy and respect. To comply with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers. To provide a range of healthcare and non-nursing duties, ensuring an efficient and effective service to the ward/department at all times

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide care under the guidance and supervision of a registered midwife. Supporting women in their care during the antenatal and postnatal period. To assist with administration and non-nursing duties at the discretion of the Ward Manager/Antenatal Clinic Manager/Team Leader.

Support women in feeding their babies using evidence-based information, in line with the Trust Infant Feeding Policy

Qualifications

* Care Certificate to be completed
* Co-Mentor qualification to be undertaken
* Commitment to undertake functional skills if required
* FDSci Health and Social Care or demonstrable experience
* DipHE


Knowledge and Experience

* Knowledge of acute hospital setting
* Demonstrable experience or experience of working in a healthcare or Maternity setting
* Previous experience of supporting others in an infant feeding role
