University of Sheffield
Join a cutting-edge research project focused on the synthesis, characterisation, and testing of next-generation cathode materials for lithium battery applications. Working in fully equipped laboratories under the supervision of Professor Tony West, you’ll play a key role in developing advanced lithium manganese oxide systems using solid state reactions and high-energy ball milling. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative Li and Na battery research, applying techniques such as powder XRD with Rietveld refinement, TGA, battery fabrication, and electrochemical testing to drive real-world energy storage solutions.
Responsibilities
* Synthesise rock salt and spinel-structured materials, carry out detailed structural and compositional analysis, and prepare and evaluate cathode materials for performance.
* Utilise advanced analytical tools including XRF, ICP-MS, and SEM/EDS, optimise glove box handling procedures, and contribute to lab management and training.
