Main duties of the job
* We are looking for an Aortic Surgical Fellow [Vascular surgery] to complement our middle grade rota. The successful candidate will be fully engaged with all aspects of open and endovascular aortic surgery.
* Exposure to aortic surgical care across the thoracic and abdominal aorta through the complex aortic MDT.
* Seeking an experienced vascular surgeon looking to broaden their complex aortic experience in a high volume tertiary referral unit.
* The Wessex Vascular Network serves a population of 2 million patients. The fellow will support a team of 9 Consultants, with 7 theatre lists per week.
* Based mainly at Southampton General Hospital, with possible travel to other units in the region.
* Involvement in approximately 10 aortic cases/month and participation in broad vascular surgical activities.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
* Manage the acute vascular service on a 1:7 daytime rota.
* Participate in scheduled theatre sessions, focusing on aortic procedures.

Additional Information
* Appointment under local contractual terms for Trust-appointed (non-training) doctors.
* Educational supervision and CPD support available.
* Salary: MT04 £61,825 or MT05 £70,425, based on experience.
* Eligibility: Minimum 6 years of Specialty training, relevant higher specialty exam (e.g., FRCS), and a portfolio demonstrating progression.
* GMC registration and right to work in the UK are essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* Essential: MBBS or equivalent, GMC registration, 3+ years postgraduate training, MRCS, vascular experience at SpR level.
* Desirable: FRCS, European Vascular Qualification, publications, commitment to the specialty.
Aptitudes and Skills
* Teamwork, communication, organizational skills, calmness, teaching ability, research application, decision-making, driving license.
* Desirable: Teaching experience, NHS knowledge, behavioral adaptability.
