Offer description

Washwood Heath MAT, From now and throughout the year we look for a People Advisor to join our dedicated team and help shape a thriving, inclusive, and supportive culture for our staff and our wider school community. GR3 (£27,254 - £33,699) per annum, 36.5 hrs per week, All Year Round

Who We Are

Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust ("WHMAT") is a caring and inclusive group of 7 academies (1 All Through, 2 secondary and 4 primaries), serving a diverse, multicultural community in East Birmingham. We have approximately 740 employees and 4,500 young people within a 3.5 mile radius.

Your Role

This will be a school-based role at one of our seven academies with occasional home working depending on business needs. You’ll be allocated specific schools so that you can build rapport with staff and stakeholders in those settings. This role will require the ability to travel between sites as needed.

You’ll be a key member of our HR (People) team, responsible for supporting the People Manager with a range of work streams for various academies/directorates, including recruitment and pre‑employment checks using our HR Information system (HRIS), professional growth, single central record/compliance, probation and lower‑level employee relations case work.

This post‑holder plays a central role in our mission statement of “Find them, grow them, keep them” – without recruiting quality staff we would not be able to function as a Trust.

Our Ideal Candidate

* Previous HR experience is preferred, but not essential; we’ll train you in the full range of tasks. This post could suit an experienced HR Assistant or HR Advisor, or someone with excellent administrative skills who is taking their first step into HR.
* Excellent administrative skills ensuring attention to detail and accuracy in written and oral communication.
* IT literate, with a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and management information systems/applicant tracking systems.
* A willingness to learn with a ‘can do’ attitude and comfort in a fast‑paced environment.
* Ability to prioritise and manage workload autonomously.
* Interest in Wellbeing, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (WEDI).
* Willingness to travel to all sites within the Trust.

What You’ll Gain

* End‑to‑end involvement in recruitment, from advert to onboarding, and participation in key safety administrative processes such as DBS checks and updates to the Single Central Record (SCR).
* Collaboration with our external payroll provider to ensure correct pay and welcome new staff prior to them joining, including checking right‑to‑work documents.
* Management of queries from staff both on‑site and via our central inbox on a wide range of pay and conditions questions.

In Return, We Will Offer You

* A collaborative and inclusive culture with opportunities to upskill and learn.
* Structured CPD through the National College online platform, apprenticeships such as CIPD or Coaching via the Apprenticeship Levy.
* Opportunity to shadow colleagues in the Employee Experience arm of the People Team to gain exposure to other HR work streams.
* A wellbeing culture: regular check‑ins with line manager, paid and unpaid time off for life events via our Life Leave Policy, a Wellbeing Champion and participation in our annual staff wellbeing survey with Edurio. 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offering confidential counselling, wellbeing advice and the lifestyle app My Possible Self.
* A culture of flexible working, with opportunities to work from home or other offices as required.
* Access to supportive policies: Life Leave, Wellbeing, Career Break and Family Friendly.
* Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
* Comprehensive employee rewards package including Long Service Awards, Employee Referral Scheme, Cycle to Work Scheme and contribution to glasses and eye‑sight tests for eligible display‑screen users.
* Participation in Trust‑wide collaborative groups such as the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) working group and Wellbeing working groups (including menopause and neurodiversity support).
* Generous annual leave entitlement based on length of service: starting at 30 days pro‑rata, rising to 33 days after five years, and 35 days after ten years, plus an additional two‑week paid closure at Christmas with additional days of leave.
* On‑site parking at all schools.

Informal chats are welcome by contacting Zareen Shaukut (People Manager) on recruitment@whmat.academy.
