Description Children, Education and Justice Services School Support Assistant James Gillespie’s High School Salary: £25,905 - £26,111 (pro-rata for part time and sessional) Hours: 30 per week, 39 weeks sessional Working Pattern: Monday to Thursday 8.30am - 15:30pm & Friday 8:30am - 12:30pm James Gillespie’s High School is in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh. A fully co-ed comprehensive since the 1970s, we are also Edinburgh’s only Àrd-Sgoil (Gaelic Secondary School). We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our office support team. The post holder will be responsible for secretarial and clerical assistance for our school. You will have excellent organisational and time management skills supported by relevant local authority or school experience. You will be flexible, well organised and have excellent interpersonal skills to ensure the smooth running of our school office. You will not be working directly with the students. The successful candidate will be expected to manage and operate various computerised systems and have sound knowledge and experience in this area. The job will include student attendance admin, chasing student absences and monitoring the completion of staff’s registers. A working knowledge of SEEMIS and other school-based systems would be an advantage as would the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Candidates will be expected to provide basic first aid and administer medication as appropriate. A suitable qualification in first aid or a willingness to undertake any necessary training is essential. The post holders will assist in a range of tasks relating to the administration and organisation of teaching resources, student records and documentation. You will have no direct teaching responsibility or sole supervision of young people. The successful candidates must work well under pressure, enjoy working with people, and have very strong organisational and time-management skills. Prior experience working in school administration, as well as spoken and written Gaelic, would be advantageous however, not essential. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
