Senior Pathology Support Worker for Stock & Inventory Management

The Immunology ISO:15189 accredited Hub laboratory at St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey (Berkshire Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS)) has a vacancy for a full-time Senior Pathology Support Worker covering Stock & Inventory Management to work in the laboratory.

BSPS is a successful, progressive pathology network formed as a contractual joint venture between 5 trusts providing services to acute Trusts, primary and community care and private healthcare. The laboratory opening hours are 7am - 7pm Monday - Friday, 9am - 1pm on Saturdays.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate who has experience in specimen reception, laboratory skills and inventory management and for the accurate and safe use of laboratory equipment and reagents.

To be successful, the candidate will need a flexible attitude towards work with good organisational skills, attention to detail and communication. They must have the ability to work under pressure and work well within a team as well as being friendly and reliable.

The laboratory is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) for the provision of pre-registration training. For candidates who possess a biomedical science degree approved by the IBMS, it may be possible after a period of time/training to complete the IBMS Registration Training portfolio in this post.

Main duties of the job

This post involves routine laboratory duties to support the department including the receipt of deliveries, user acceptance testing and stock management including ordering of supplies. Duties of the role also involve receipt of samples from specimen reception and tracking, disposal of samples/reagents, responsibility for the referral of samples to other laboratories and entry of results into the laboratory computer information system (LIMS). In addition you will also receive full training to use and maintain automated equipment in the department to perform assays, rotating through sections of each laboratory under the supervision of biomedical scientists.

We are looking for candidates who have some general laboratory skills for the accurate and safe use of laboratory equipment and reagents but Immunology experience is not necessary. To be successful the candidate, as well as being friendly and reliable, will need a flexible attitude towards work with good organisational skills, attention to detail and communication. They must have the ability to work under pressure and work well within a team.

Job responsibilities

Main responsibilities will be accurate receipt and labelling of all deliveries, user acceptance testing of reagents, stock management and ordering of supplies.

This post also involves routine laboratory duties to support the department including:

* Receipt of samples from main specimen reception
* Tracking samples electronically into racks
* Disposal of samples/reagents
* Responsibility for the referral of samples to other laboratories
* Packaging samples according to postal regulations
* Entry of results into the laboratory computer information system (LIMS).
* Answering the telephone
* Responding to department emails
* Comply with requirements for mandatory training
* Assist in training new staff
* Loading and running a variety of analysers under the supervision of a BMS


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Education to GCSE, GNVQ level 2 or equivalent to include English and maths.

Experience

* Experience of working within Pathology
* Evidence examples of team working
* Experience of Immunology techniques

* Experience of stock and inventory management


Other requirements

* Able to demonstrate that you are honest, reliable and trustworthy
* Able to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
* A team worker/player
* Motivated and willing to develop knowledge and skills
