Job summary
The NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, has recently been awarded funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to optimise the delivery of world-class research in ophthalmology and related vision sciences.
The Facility is part of the Moorfields NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology, a joint initiative between Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London Institute of Ophthalmology, and is one of three London-based Academic Health Science centres within the UCL Partners network.
The CRF focuses on high-quality clinical research, including experimental medicine and translational studies, pioneering new therapies for ophthalmic disorders. It provides a clinical environment supported by specialist research staff such as ophthalmic research nurses, administrators, and technicians.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide specialised advanced high-resolution retinal imaging interpretation, technical advice, and consultancy for research projects, including supervising PhD students. Responsibilities include specialist imaging interpretation, analysis, designing tests, and ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice standards.

Job responsibilities
The role involves independent interpretation, analysis, and modelling of ophthalmic imaging data using advanced instruments and developing algorithms for specialized imaging techniques. The candidate will also program, design research methodologies, analyze data, and communicate findings effectively. Additionally, responsibilities include training PhD students and manual activities involving patients and equipment.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
* Awareness of national standards and guidelines in imaging
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Desirable
* ICH-GCP compliance
* Deep knowledge of ophthalmic imaging devices
Experience
* At least 5 years in scientific/technical medical imaging
* Programming experience in Matlab, Python, GIMP
* Line management experience
* Participation in clinical research
Education
* PhD in imaging sciences
* Postgraduate qualification at Masters level or equivalent
