Mechanical Engineering Supervisor (Steam and Mechanical Plant)
Location: South Mimms, Hertfordshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am : 5:00pm
Overtime: Weekend overtime available for steam checks and operational requirements
About the Rolegeneration and associated mechanical plant systems at a major new development in South Mimms.
This is a hands:on supervisory role responsible for ensuring all plant and equipment are operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory regulations, site procedures, and contractual performance standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, statutory compliance, and operational continuity across the site.
Key Responsibilities
: Operate and monitor steam boilers, calorifiers, pressurisation units, pumps, valves, pipework systems, and associated mechanical plant.
: Carry out daily plant inspections and record operational readings.
: Monitor steam pressures, temperatures, water levels, and overall plant performance.
: Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all steam and heating systems.
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
: Deliver maintenance activities in line with the Annual Planned Maintenance Schedule.
: Complete maintenance tasks in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, statutory requirements, and industry best practice.
: Replace consumables and minor components as required.
: Maintain accurate service records, maintenance documentation, and compliance reports.
Reactive Maintenance
: Respond to plant breakdowns, system faults, alarms, and emergency callouts.
: Diagnose and rectify mechanical and steam system faults efficiently.
: Undertake repairs and minor remedial works.
: Escalate significant defects, risks, or operational concerns to management.
Health, Safety and Compliance
: Ensure compliance with:
: Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)
: Health and Safety at Work Act
: Permit:to:Work procedures
: Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) systems
: Participate in risk assessments and safe systems of work.
: Maintain clean, safe, and compliant plant room environments.
: Support a strong safety culture across the site.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
: NVQ Level 3 / City and Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or equivalent.
: BOAS (Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme).
: Gas Safe Registered with:
: CODNCO1 : Commercial Catering / Direct Fired Appliances
: CIGA1 : Indirect Fired Heating Appliances
: CDGA1 : Direct Fired Heating Appliances
: TPCP1 / TPCP1A : Testing and Purging Commercial Pipework
: Proven experience operating and maintaining commercial steam systems.
: Strong knowledge of boiler plant and pressure systems.
: Experience with:
: PSSR regulations
: Safe isolation procedures
: Permit:to:Work systems
: CAFM systems
: Background within commercial building services or facilities management environments.
Desirable Qualifications
: IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
: Water Hygiene / L8 Awareness.
: HVAC or BMS experience.
: Experience within healthcare, education, research, or large commercial facilities.
