Residential Caretaker

George Abbot is a large secondary school with a community of 2,200 people. Our premises are consequently substantial and located on a 22-acre site. We are seeking a motivated and reliable caretaker. Your role is pivotal in maintaining a well presented and safe school environment. You will be working as a part of a team of four estates and premises colleagues. This position includes the benefit of a school owned house located within the perimeters of our estate. However, we also warmly welcome applications from candidates who do not wish to take up the on-site housing option. Good practical skills are a must and whilst previous experience of working in school would be an advantage, it is not essential.
The successful applicant will contribute to maintaining the site in a good state of repair, so the role would suit someone with DIY skills. Other duties include but are not limited to; daily portering, statutory health and safety testing, monitoring stock levels of supplies and working with contractors during school holidays. You will be working in a school environment and so communication and bring an excellent role model will be important personal attributes for this role.
The role also requires the appointee to operate specialist equipment and undertake manual handling and physically demanding work. Training will be provided. At all times, the successful applicant will need to act as a strong role model to young people and contribute to robust safeguarding.
