Job Description
As an Electrical Engineer, you will develop and implement systems that power and control our maritime platforms and directly support teams of craft technicians. Your role is crucial in ensuring the quality and performance of our products and places you at the forefront of advancing world‑leading maritime technology.
Responsibilities
* Systems design, craftsmanship, fault finding and maintenance – feed system design; assemble and fit electrical components and systems according to specifications.
* Competent use of hand tools and fault finding equipment.
* Confidence in fault finding of high‑voltage, low‑voltage and CAN‑based systems.
* Assist in sourcing and selection of components for build and manufacture of electrical and control systems.
* Quality control and setting to work of vessel electrical systems.
* Work Management – follow work instructions and project timelines to ensure timely completion.
* Utilise tablet‑based work management systems to access instructions, record progress and complete documentation accurately.
* Collaborate in the creation of process and work instructions.
* Team Collaboration – work closely with all team members; communicate effectively with colleagues to coordinate tasks, share insights and troubleshoot issues.
* Adherence to Standards – maintain exacting standards of workmanship; ensure compliance with safety protocols, quality control measures and industry standards.
* Innovative Thinking – propose and implement improvements in systems design, installation techniques, build processes and fault finding; contribute ideas to enhance efficiency, quality and productivity in the workshop.
* Pride in workshop environment – maintain elevated cleanliness and organisation; demonstrate strong commitment to producing high‑quality systems and components.
Qualifications and Experience
* Deep understanding of DC power systems as well as PLC and CAN control architecture.
* Experience of fault finding, new builds, quality control and creation of documentation for process.
* Proficient use of hand tools and confident to build, fit and fault find complex systems and components to a high standard.
* Able to work from drawings and work instructions; complete documentation when required.
* Computer‑literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Optional City & Guilds, HNC or HND qualification in Electrical, Electronic Engineering or Marine Engineering, or extended experience in automotive or marine environment.
* Ability to fault find and fix mechanical, hydraulic systems.
* Ability to use Auto‑CAD, Inventor and other 3D software.
Working Conditions
The role will primarily be based in the SubSea Craft office in Portsmouth, UK, with the requirement to travel to our Portland facility in Dorset during trials. Position may involve work in a manufacturing environment and at sea during trials; physical challenges may occur and require adherence to safety protocols.
Due to the nature of work, selected candidate must meet security requirements – existing right to live and work in the UK, BPSS, with security check likely for specific projects.
