Project Engineer Location: Milton Keynes Department: Operations – Engineering Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE Hours: 37 per week Holiday: 25 days Bank Holidays About the Role We are seeking a technically capable and commercially aware Project Engineer to join our Engineering team in Milton Keynes. This role provides technical leadership across rolling stock refurbishment and modification projects, ensuring safe, on-budget and technically compliant delivery. You will act as the primary technical point of contact for customers on designated projects, coordinating engineering activities across operations, procurement, quality and supply chain functions. This is a hands-on role requiring strong problem-solving capability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage engineering change within a regulated rail environment. Key Responsibilities Provide engineering support to resolve technical issues impacting production and operations Review customer specifications to ensure technically compliant vehicle delivery Review and approve technical drawings, schematics and documentation Control and manage engineering change processes for assigned projects Mobilise new projects, ensuring all technical requirements are understood and implemented Coordinate cross-functional activities to ensure successful project delivery Support procurement through materials evaluation and supplier liaison Ensure compliance with Railway Group Standards and relevant regulations Conduct risk assessments and support technical investigations following incidents Maintain and control all relevant project documentation Assist with estimating and surveying activities for new contracts Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost reductionAbout You HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline Experience within the rail industry (desirable) Strong understanding of technical drawings, schematics and engineering documentation Experience managing engineering change and technical compliance Commercial awareness and understanding of contractual project requirements Confident user of Microsoft Office applications Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to work within structured engineering and safety processesSafety Commitment Safety is fundamental to everything we do.
