Assystem is growing fast — and our stress and structural integrity capability is growing with it. We’re looking for a Senior/Principal Stress Engineer who is ready to take the next step into a technical and capability leadership role, helping to strengthen, grow and develop our UK stress engineering community.
This is a hybrid role: you’ll deliver high-value technical work for clients while also shaping the direction, tools, talent and strategy of our stress capability.
Your mission
* Lead complex stress and structural integrity assessments using FEA and hand calculations
* Review and approve technical work, representing Assystem confidently with clients
* Mentor and develop engineers, building future stress specialists
* Drive capability growth — training, methods, best practices, recruitment and retention
* Support bids and business development, working closely with Engineering Directors and Sales
* Collaborate across multi‑disciplinary teams in the nuclear and defence sectors

Qualifications
What You’ll Bring:
* Lead, build and guide a community of highly skilled stress engineers
* Strong background in stress analysis / structural integrity
* Expertise in FEA (ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.) and relevant assessment codes (ASME, BS7910, R6 etc.)
* Experience in the nuclear or similar highly regulated sector
* Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working toward it
* Ability to develop and implement technical strategy and capability development
Additional Information
* Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
