We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role involves regulating energy sectors to protect people and the environment from emissions and to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The UK strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving transformation in the energy sectors, which are responsible for 24% of UK greenhouse gas emissions.
You may be required to respond to incidents as part of your duties, including availability to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents as required and participate in business continuity activities during incidents.
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. We lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction and tools to support regulation, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience in the work area, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
