Role Summary Job title: Knowledge Counsel. Team: Real Estate – Transactions. Key internal relationships: Knowledge Counsel in the RE practice group and wider firm network, RE transactions partners and associates, Head of Knowledge, RE Strategy - Professional Excellence and Innovation pillar teams, RE Operations and Business Services Teams – particularly Business Development, Legal Operations and Project Management (LOPM) and Legal Tech/Automation teams. Role purpose The role of Real Estate Knowledge Counsel is pivotal in ensuring the continuous development and dissemination of knowledge and technical best practice within the real estate practice group. You will be based in the regions and be part of the Real Estate Knowledge Counsel team and will work with the Real Estate Transactions, LOPM and Legal Tech/Automation teams. Your role will include all aspects of being a Real Estate Knowledge Counsel, but a key part of the role will be to focus on using your legal knowledge and experience to assist with best utilising the firm’s innovation tools (including AI and other legal tech) to improve the efficiency of transactional processes within the Real Estate Transactions team. About The Role The role will include all aspects of the Real Estate Knowledge Counsel role including: Answering questions from the Real Estate Transactions team. Working on the Standard documents. Updating the team on legal developments. Delivery of training for the team. A key part of the role will be on the innovation side, using your skills as a Real Estate Knowledge Counsel to work creatively with the LOPM and Legal Tech/Automation teams to utilise technology to make the Real Estate Transactions team’s processes more user-friendly and effective on transactions. Key Responsibilities You will work as part of the Real Estate Knowledge Counsel team on all aspects of the Real Estate Knowledge Counsel role including: Delivering current awareness updates and developing new knowledge assets as needed. Maintaining the practice know how offering on Horizon, coordinating with the Real Estate Knowledge team and other lawyers to ensure currency, quality and relevancy. Supporting the development of fee earners by being available to support with questions on transactions– being approachable but knowing also when to point out problems or issues. Understanding fee earners’ challenges and pressures via regular interaction so that timely and appropriate solutions can be delivered expeditiously. Working on developing our existing standard documents and creating new standards. Helping to deliver legal training for the Real Estate Transactions team. Responsibilities A key aspect of your responsibilities will be to use your legal knowledge and experience to lead on and support innovation and improve processes for the Real Estate Transactions team. This includes: Working creatively with the LOPM and Legal Tech/Automation teams to support the drive to improve the efficiency of real estate transactional processes through the use of technology. Taking ownership of how such processes are developed including the legal tech tools and resources used. Creating new types of know-how (such as playbooks and prompt libraries) that might be required to support the developed transactional processes. Managing and delivering technical training to explain the new processes. Utilising technology to improve access to information for fee earners. More Generally Working both autonomously and in a team context, with regular communication about priorities and deadlines with leadership, as well as regular requests for feedback to assess performance. Engaging with all firmwide initiatives where relevant and maximising ability to add value (chargeable where applicable) to the firm’s business. Understanding the firm’s priorities and client priorities that allow for the best advice to be given with a commercial lens. Skills And Competencies Qualified RE Lawyer – 3-5yrs PQE with in-depth legal knowledge of Real Estate legal practice and sector. Experience in the use of legal tech and AI tools relevant to the market such as Harvey, Orbital Copilot, knowledge systems and service delivery tools. Keen interest in innovation and tech with an ability to understand basic coding/programming principles, spot opportunities for improving service delivery and champion technologically driven change and innovation. Proactive, well-organised and capable of distilling advice clearly and concisely for the firm and individual fee earners. Keen market awareness with an understanding of key client drivers and the impact of legislative change. Skilled at seeing the bigger picture while quickly focusing on key details.
