Job Vacancy: Machine Operator
Location: Barley Chalu
Departments: Polyamide, Thermal Break, Sublimation, and Stripping
Hours: Candidate needs to be flexible as the areas run at different timings. 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m/8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday (40–45 hours/week + overtime/some weekends as required)
Starting Salary: Starting at £12.50/hour (with potential increase based on performance and training progression)
About the Role:
Barley Chalu is currently recruiting Machine Operators to support production across our Polyamide, Thermal Break, Sublimation, and Stripping departments. You will be allocated based on business needs and production schedules.
Experience in mechanical production and basic engineering knowledge is preferred—but not essential—as full training will be provided. We're seeking a proactive and reliable team member with strong attention to detail and the ability to produce basic written reports.
Key Responsibilities by Department:
Polyamide
* Interpret drawings and programs accurately
* Set up knurler and rolling BTM
* Conduct shear testing
Thermal Break
* Check components against technical drawings and programs
* Operate fill machine and saw
* Monitor and empty swarf bins
Sublimation
* Inspect base coat colour and paint coverage on incoming material
* Verify materials against drawings/programs
* Safely operate bagging machine, vacuum table, and oven
* Conduct accurate temperature setup and stoving
* Inspect and store finished profiles safely
Powder Coating Stripping
* Inspect incoming profiles for paint quality and condition
* Identify and sort profiles requiring stripping
* Safely operate stripping tank and associated equipment
* Monitor chemical levels and temperatures in stripping baths
* Remove stripped profiles and rinse thoroughly
* Inspect cleaned profiles to ensure complete removal of coating
* Dispose of waste materials in line with company procedures
* Maintain a clean and safe working area at all times
* Record batch information and process times as required
* Report any issues or defects to the supervisor promptly
Candidate Profile:

* Mechanical aptitude and/or production machinery experience
* Basic engineering understanding (training provided)
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures
* Clear communicator with sound judgment
* Comfortable with physical tasks and repetitive processes

* Ability to write brief reports and maintain accurate records
Training & Progression:
* Full training will be provided across relevant departments
* A standard 3-month probation period applies, though early completion is possible based on progress
* Salary reviews will occur post-training based on demonstrated skills and performance
