Roxel is an Anglo-French company that designs, develops, and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for tactical missiles. Its operations span several sites in the UK and France, with an annual turnover of about £130M and over 900 staff.
A vacancy has arisen for a Simulation Manager within the Engineering Department at Roxel UK.
The department designs new and modified rocket motors and related systems. It is responsible for analyzing rocket motor designs, including ballistic performance prediction and modeling, propellant charge and hardware stress analysis, and documentation services. Maintenance of design manuals and knowledge databases is also part of the department's activities.
Responsibilities
The role holder will manage a team of design analysts and documentation configuration engineers, overseeing tasks, projects, and departmental activities.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Managing a team to deliver departmental functions aligned with business plans.
2. Planning and prioritizing tasks for immediate and mid-term requirements.
3. Managing inputs into the design manual for knowledge management.
4. Developing strategies to enhance analysis capabilities.
5. Ensuring accurate ballistic and stress analyses.
6. Maintaining high-quality documentation and improving on-time delivery.
7. Reporting progress weekly and taking corrective actions as needed.
8. Managing people strategies, including objectives, training, recruitment, and succession planning.
9. Supporting bids and pre-concept phases.
10. Leading future propulsion concept scoping.
Skills/Qualifications
Candidates should hold a formal qualification (HNC, HND, or degree) in Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a relevant engineering discipline, with proven relevant experience.
Knowledge and experience should include some of the following:
* Leadership of technical projects
* Supervision or management of people
* Design of aerospace and defense products
* Environmental trials, e.g., simulated aging, vibration
* Structural tests, e.g., launch and flight loads
* Product modeling software and techniques
* Customer design and production reviews
* Engineering drawing and configuration management
* Aerospace and defense standards
Additional attributes include:
* Interest and aptitude in engineering
* Awareness of new technologies and design practices
* Ability to communicate technical topics to non-specialists
* Ability to motivate and develop people
* Drive to succeed and improve
* Track record of meeting customer expectations
