⭐About the Role
Teaching Personnel is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Newport and the surrounding areas, supporting pupils aged 11–16.
In this rewarding Learning Support Assistant position, you will play an important role in supporting pupils who require additional help to access learning. You will work closely with the school’s Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team, supporting students with a range of needs including learning difficulties, social and emotional challenges, and behavioural needs.
You will help remove barriers to learning by:
* Supporting pupils through tailored 1:1 intervention
* Reinforcing learning and engagement within the classroom
* Encouraging emotional regulation, confidence, and resilience
* Promoting positive participation and behaviour
Working closely with teachers, SEN/ALN teams, and pastoral staff, you’ll contribute to a calm, structured, and nurturing environment where pupils feel supported and able to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing targeted 1:1 support for pupils who need additional academic or emotional assistance
* Offering general classroom support within small groups
* Encouraging positive engagement and helping pupils regulate emotions
* Helping maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment
* Supporting students during break times and transitions when needed

We welcome applicants with experience in any of the following areas:
* Teaching Assistant or classroom support roles
* Behaviour support, mentoring, or youth work
* SEN, SEMH, or Additional Learning Needs (ALN) support
* Alternative provision or specialist education settings
* Education, care, mental health, or criminal justice environments

✅Requirements (or willingness to obtain independently)
Applicants must hold, or be willing to apply for:
* Aged 18+
* Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
* Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
* Level 2 Safeguarding training
* Two professional references covering 24 months
