Band 7 Inherited Arrhythmia Nurse

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our specialist cardiology team as an Inherited Arrhythmia Nurse. This exciting opportunity is a part-time (0.5 WTE), 12-month secondment at Band 7

Main duties of the job
To deliver a high-quality nursing service to patients with structural heart disease.
To have excellent communication with patients, their families, colleagues, and other members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team.
To manage a caseload of patients with structural heart disease, from initial referral to follow-up after their intervention procedure.
To work autonomously and collaboratively in both Consultant-led and Nurse-led Structural clinics.
To be a member of the ward-based Structural heart team; reviewing patients pre and post structural intervention and providing support to nursing staff.
Be an active member of the Valve multidisciplinary team meeting; advocating for patients and enacting the MDT plans.
To undertake regular teaching, training, and mentorship of the nursing team in the provision of care for Structural heart disease patients.
To actively participate in and promote research and service improvement and development.
The post holder will be based at Barts Heart Centre.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse
2. BSc or equivalent
3. Relevant post graduate cardiac course
4. Mentorship/ post registration teaching course
Desirable criteria
5. Possession of or working towards Masters
6. Physical assessment course or willing to work towards when in post.
Experience
Essential criteria
7. 5 years post registration experience
8. 2 or more years working at AFC Band 6 or band 7 within cardiology
9. Experience of looking after patients with heart valve disease
10. Evidence of teaching and mentoring
11. Experience of patient education
12. Clinical and operational management experience.
Desirable criteria
13. Previous experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
14. Research and audit experience.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
15. Expert Knowledge of the current guidelines for the management and treatment options of heart valve disease
Desirable criteria
16. Knowledge of the inpatient and out-patient referral systems
Skills
Essential criteria
17. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with MDT, patients, and their carers.
18. Ability to work as part of team as well autonomously without supervision
19. Ability to prioritise and organise work to manage a caseload of patients.
20. Proven oral and written communication skills.
21. Demonstrates managerial, organisational and leadership skills.
Desirable criteria
22. Previous experience of writing standard operating protocols.
23. Ability to manage change
