We have an exciting opportunity for a Sonographer / Accredited Vascular Scientist to assist with training delivery for the North East and North Cumbria Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme. The role is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with attendance required at screening sites within the catchment area.
We seek a dedicated, enthusiastic, and sensitive individual to perform abdominal ultrasound scans in the community and support local training of Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners. You will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team working closely with NAAASP-approved vascular units to provide an effective, patient-focused service. Opportunities for training and development will be encouraged.
The candidate should have or be willing to work towards a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent).
The successful candidate will need a clean driving licence and access to a car with insurance for business purposes.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for training, supervision, and quality assurance of Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners according to policies.
2. Perform accurate abdominal aortic ultrasound scans as part of the community AAA screening programme.
3. Ensure all scans are performed to high standards and in accordance with national procedures.
4. Inform and educate patients attending clinics about the implications of AAA screening.
5. Provide health promotion to men identified with an aneurysm.
6. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver efficient, effective services at screening centres and sites.
7. Undertake professional and technical training as required by the North East and North Cumbria AAA Screening Programme.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised CASE-accredited (or equivalent) qualification in sonography (DMU/PGDip/PGCert in Medical Ultrasound) and/or full SVT accreditation.
* Current HCPC registration.
* Valid UK Driving Licence.
* Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA).
* NAAASP CST Qualification.
Experience
* Experience of scanning AAAs.
* Evidence of ongoing CPD.
* Minimum of 2 years post-qualification NHS experience.
