Job Description
We are looking for a motivated, compassionate, and skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our Community Speech and Language Therapy Service. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive, forward‑thinking team providing high‑quality care to adults across a range of community settings.
The post holder will support individuals with a wide variety of communication and swallowing needs, enabling people to maximise their independence, safety, and quality of life. You will work with patients who have complex and long‑term conditions, using evidence‑based interventions and a person‑centred approach to assessment, treatment, and goal‑setting.
If you are a motivated, flexible and forward‑thinking band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) who is ready to advance their professional and clinical development in a more senior role or a current band 7 SLT wanting to further consolidate their knowledge and skills within a new role alongside a nurturing team, we would love to hear from you.
You will undertake a critical role in promoting collaborative working practices within the Speech and Language Therapy Team across Morecambe Bay.
You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with colleagues across health and social care, including nurses, therapists, GPs, and care providers. Clinical work will take place in patients’ own homes, care homes, and community clinics, allowing you to develop strong therapeutic relationships and deliver care in environments that matter most to the individuals you support.
The service is supported by an overarching Clinical and Professional Lead. The service is aligned to and contributes to a range of regional peer support networks and Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board workstreams related to Speech and Language Therapy, neurorehabilitation and the Integrated Stroke and Neuro-rehabilitation Delivery Network (ISNDN).
The ability to travel and work across Morecambe Bay, including hospital, outpatient, community and telehealth settings is a non‑negotiable element of this role.
We operate from three main hospitals‑Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant‑led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non‑life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
