About Us

The flood risk management team at Oxfordshire County Council delivers the responsibilities of the Lead Local Flood Authority. This role is fulfilled alongside partners and stakeholders to manage flood risk across Oxfordshire in a collaborative way. The team supports the Council in its work relating to climate change adaptation and increasing resilience to flooding both now and in the future.


About the Role

The role of Technical Lead - SuDS Drainage Engineer is a critical position in the delivery of our statutory planning consultee role. Working with the Team Leader and other Technical Leads, this role includes the following responsibilities:

* Providing high quality technical planning consultation responses for major applications with surface water drainage.
* Promoting and providing pre-application advice through our chargeable service.
* Providing technical advice in relation to highway drainage, nationally significant infrastructure projects and other schemes.
* Ensuring timely delivery of advice in accordance with key performance indicators.
* Contributing to the development of technical standards and guidance for surface water drainage.
* Assisting with the identification and evaluation of opportunities for savings, efficiencies and income generation to improve services.

This role requires experience in the above responsibilities, and an understanding of current relevant policies and guidance. The role also includes supporting the wider work of the flood risk management team, including the development of strategies and plans, and investigating flooding.


About you

We are looking for individuals who are experienced and confident in providing technical surface water drainage advice in response to planning consultation requests. Attention to detail is important, alongside being assertive and pragmatic as necessary. You must have an excellent understanding of relevant current policies and guidance, and be prepared to liaise with various stakeholders including planners, highways officers, and external consultants. You should also have an interest in contributing to the development of the team both technically and collaboratively.
