Amey is a leading provider of full life-cycle engineering, operations, and decarbonisation solutions for transport infrastructure and complex facilities. Working with us, you'll deliver sustainable infrastructure solutions that enhance life and protect our shared future.
Our people are driven by strong values based on safety, insight, and collaboration.
The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, with shared office space and remote working options. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across these regions.
Our Structures Team designs some of Scotland's largest civil engineering and infrastructure projects, with cumulative values exceeding £1bn.
Amey manages the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively, with durations of 8 years, extendable to 12. In addition, we have various projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and contractors nationwide.
These long-term contracts offer excellent opportunities for professional growth and involvement in major engineering projects across Scotland’s arterial road network.
The role
Our Lead Bridge Engineers play a key role within the Design team and collaborate with Transport Scotland. As a Lead Senior Engineer, you will support your Design Team Leader on civil schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior designers.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions compliant with standards and client requirements.
* Preparing and reviewing designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
* Overseeing junior staff and ensuring quality and timeliness of their work.
* Managing project budgets and costs.
* Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
* Contributing to bids and work-winning activities.
* Promoting health and safety practices within the team.
What you will bring to us:
* Experience and expertise in civil engineering, likely from a Senior Engineer role or similar.
* Ability to produce compliant, high-quality engineering solutions independently and supervise others.
* Experience with health, safety, and welfare management, including CDM regulations.
* Capability to act as the main engineering contact, e.g., CRE for Network Rail schemes.
* Knowledge of design and specification processes, with the ability to review and advise.
* Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools.
* Understanding of risk assessment and hazard management.
* Potential to act as Principal Designer on projects.
* People management skills for a medium-sized technical team.
* Incorporated or Chartered status is desirable or essential depending on contracts.
